Sri City, July 14, 2016 :- Considering the relevance of the Goods and Service Tax (GST) for the industry and to analyse significant issues in Service Tax, a workshop was jointly organised by the Institute for Financial Management and Research (IFMR), Sri City, and the Associated Chambers of Commerce and Industry (ASSOCHAM)-Southern Region at the Kothari Hall of IFMR in Sri City on Thursday. Mr. S.K. Samal, ITS, Development Commissioner, Sri City was the chef guest of the event.
The inaugural ceremony commenced with the welcome address by Prof. P. K. Biwas, Director, IFMR. Delivering the inaugural address Mr. S.K. Samal appreciated the organisers for arranging the workshop, and explained the nuances of GST bill , which the union government is aiming to implement with effect from April 1, 2017. Mr. Samal said that introduction of GST would be a very significant step in the field of indirect tax reforms in India. He urged the participants to discuss in detail on GST and service tax and get their apprehensions cleared.
Mr. C. P. Rao, IRS, Chief Commissioner, Service Tax, Chennai gave a talk on issues and implications of service tax pertaining to the special economic zones and domestic tariff zones.
Mr. M. Ponnuswamy, IRS (Retired), Former DG, Academy of Central Excise, Customs & Narcotics delivered a lucid lecture on different aspects of GST bill. He dwelt upon the various parameters of GST and its likely impact on industries.
The workshop was attended by over 200 delegates. The participants included Heads and Finance Executives from different industrial units in Sri City, faculty and students of IFMR. At the end of each lecture the participants actively interacted with the speakers on various aspects of the GST.
