Sri City, October 7, 2020: Mr. KVN. Chakradhara Babu, IAS, District Collector, Nellore inaugurated an ‘Industry Customised Skill Training & Placement Centre’ (ICSTPC) in the presence of Mr. Challa Madhusudhan Reddy, Chairman, APSSDC, Dr. Arja Srikanth, IRTS, MD, CEO APSSDC and Mr. Ravindra Sannareddy, Founder Managing Director, Sri City and Member of Advisory Committee on Skill Development, on Wednesday. This is the very first Centre of its kind in the state, and was set up jointly by the Andhra Pradesh State Skill Development Corporation (APSSDC) and Sri City.
Expressing confidence that ICSTPC will serve as a model for skill development and placement, Mr. Chakradhara Babu said,”This training will certainly help the youth in securing gainful employment, and I appreciate the APSSDC, Sri City and the industry for taking up such a good initiative.” He appealed all the trainees to make use of the opportunity and improve skills.
Thanking the State government for preferring Sri City to set up the very first training & Placement Centre, Mr. Ravindra Sannareddy said “Industry is evolving swiftly demanding new skill-sets. If the educational curriculum and students’ skill-sets are not in sync with the requirements of the industry, jobs aspirants will be hard-pressed to find jobs. So as to bridge this gap, APSSDC in collaboration with industry and Sri City offers customised skill training programmes in different trades, which will be instrumental in ensuring the local youth acquire relevant skills and get placement. I feel happy to inform that besides Alstom, other major industrial units – Isuzu, Thermax and VRV are ready to be the partners in skill training.”
Appreciating the cooperation being extended by Sri City, Alstom and other industries, Dr. Srikanth said that the concept of training students at the same industry, which requires manpower was finalised in consultation with Sri City and some of the industries. “We are very confident that this model will be very effective, and we have plans to implement it in other parts of the state.
Mr. Madhusudhana Reddy said that as per the vision of the Hon’ble Chief Minister APSSDC has initiated a number of skill development programmes in different sectors with a focused approach of transforming the youth ‘industry ready’.
Mr. Vijay, HR Manager, Alstom and the representatives of Isuzu and Thermax industries also spoke.
Training for the first batch of trainees includes thirty students who passed Diploma in Mechanical engineering in 2019. Following a scrutiny, they were all selected from all the 13 districts in the state. The ICSTPC offers them one month training at Alstom company, and the training covers the latest technologies on the shop floor and Soft Skills like English speaking, office etiquette, etc. After successful completion of the hands-on training the trainees will get placement at Alstom through regular recruitment Process.
After the inaugural function all the dignitaries went round mega industrial hub and visited the production units of Alstom and Thermax. Mr. Abdul Khayum, District Skill Development Office, Nellore and other officials were also present.
